# scloud variable

https://docs.serverpod.dev/cloud/reference/cli/commands/variable

`scloud variable` manages plaintext environment variables for non-sensitive configuration (URLs, feature flags, log levels). Variables are visible in the CLI and the Cloud console; for sensitive values, use `scloud secret` or `scloud password` instead.

See [Passwords, secrets, and environment variables](https://docs.serverpod.dev/cloud/concepts/passwords-secrets-env-vars.md) for the tier comparison, naming rules, and size limits.
